Hi there! Thank you for visiting my portfolio.
I’m in the process of renewing my site, which includes hosting it to a different server, updating the layout, and pruning older posts. The url will likely stay the same. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to post any more art here until the dust settles.
While they’re much less professional, I frequently post my art to my deviantArt and art tumblr (fair warning, some posts on my tumblr may be inappropriate for viewers younger than 18). These sites have both my day-to-day doodles as well as polished work
Again, thank you so much for visiting. Please look forward to my new portfolio!

Just something for fun

Another future title card from The Djinni. I had a lot of fun painting the Dead Sea mud, but it was hard to get exactly the effect I wanted…

A pair of illustrations from January. The hope is that one day they’ll accompany chapters of my work-in-progress online serial, “The Djinni”. I just have to write and draw the rest of it, haha!
For the backgrounds, I used real photographs that I took on my most recent trip to Israel–the trip that inspired this project, in fact!

After midnight on the 27th seems as good a time as any
For my picture commemorating Pokemon’s 20th anniversary, I decided to draw all the protagonists I’ve had the pleasure of playing as and writing about these last couple of decades. These girls have gotten me through some tough times and taken me on adventures beyond my wildest dreams. We’ve shared battles, filled Pokedexes, traveled the globe, solved mysteries, saved the world, and even fallen in love–or not; sometimes there were more important things than that. In sharing their stories, I feel like I’ve grown little by little into someone a little stronger, a little kinder, a little braver than before.
My Pokemon journey started with a trainer named Lugia, and tonight it starts again at the same place.
Thanks for the memories Pokemon, and let’s have another 20 years of adventure together!

I remembered I had the sketch for this lying around since September and I finally got around to coloring it haha…
I don’t usually draw detailed backgrounds but this particular location stuck out to me when I was doing planning for The Djinni, so I wanted to draw it. This little alcove is Solomon’s study, buried deep in a secret passageway below the remains of the temple he built. He’s spent most of his time here for the last 3,000 years and would like to keep it that way.

I’ve been playing Metal Gear Rising lately. It’s pretty goofy (and also… a little more violent than I’m used to…). But, I’m still having a lot of fun with it.
One scene stuck out to me in particular, so I decided to try drawing it… but then I ended up going way farther with it than I’d intended. I learned a lot about drawing robots and conveying lighting on different materials, though. I’d like to do more studies like this in the future.

I’m not participating in National Novel Writing Month this year, but I am going to try to use November to make some progress on my current most promising original project–whether through art or through writing. I’ve been posting character designs from it infrequently, and now it has a title: The Djinni. I hope to post this story on the internet someday, but it’s still in its infancy right now.
This design won’t become relevant until a wayse into the story, but it never hurts to have a design handy for when I get there.

In October I went to Japan for two weeks, and I didn’t draw very much while I was there. I’d sketched this before I went, and only got around to coloring it after I got back.
I tried something new for the water, and I like the result.

Surprisingly enough this is the second year in a row I’ve drawn something for Mink’s birthday; usually I’ll only draw character birthday pictures once, if at all. Mink (and Aoba) helped me get through an emotionally stressful time in my life, so I guess I drew this to show my gratitude.
Special thanks to my mom for sending me a photo of that viewpoint that I could use for a background.
